Where we place our focus matters. It has been wonderful having joy as a focus during the month of March. Some years back I was working in a professional setting and was asked not to use the word magic. I would have preferred not to be censored, but in that moment, I said okay, I’d do my best.
When I went back the next week, the word magic popped out of mouth here, there, everywhere. It wasn’t anything I planned – it was all spontaneous. The truth was that had I never been asked not to use magic; I doubt I would have ever said it all. Later, at a brief follow-up meeting I confessed that I couldn’t be counted on not to say the word and I offered them the opportunity to work with someone else.
Funny what we put our attention on as leaders isn’t it? In one instance, for me, it was magic – just because I was asked not to say it. And, this month it is a topic of my own choosing – joy.
You might wonder how I feel about the word magic today? It is one my favorite words!
Where are you putting your focus today? Is it helping the story you want to grow?
Hope you have a magical day,
Mary
