When leaders give themselves the time and space to walk the land – literally – we come to know the territory. If we follow our curiosity, wonder and playfulness – all kinds of opportunities present themselves.
I’ve been wondering what it would be like if dogs owned people, and how that turn-a-bout would change things for us two-legged humans. I knew my invisible beagle, bill (small “b”) would have some insight on this topic, and in a recent conversation he shared his thoughts, and I came away with a laugh or two and a few informal lessons in personal leadership.
One day, in March of 2016, I got a wild hair idea. That is, I had the odd notion that when I went out for my next walk, I ought to walk backwards. My next thought was that it would look a little odd, and it could be a risky thing to do. Heck, it might even be dangerous, and it did turn out to be dangerous, but more on that later.
Tree Play is a tool I developed to help me, in a playful way, keep track of my projects and accomplishments and build a little play into my day. I still use it for that purpose, and it has turned into so much more.
